Subject: [HUNGARY-L] Dishonest & deceptive sites

I think the point was that the search for web sites on Jewish genealogy can
lead to unexpected results. As such, it's a useful point to make. There
are 'underground' online groups for various former Soviet/bloc states, so
this discussion is not limited only to anti-Jewish web sites.

As a historian, I drew up the site to see how it fits into the larger
picture of web sites. I was surprised to find no links to the many 'white
Aryan' genre of sites, only 2 for Holocaust denial, and a couple for
Jewish-Arab conflicts. Since the ADL is one of the links provided, I'm
sure the ADL is aware of this site (i.e., it could enter its own initials
and draw up this site in a search.)

The site was apparently posted in April 1998, and claims to be a center of
'research' resources. It includes links to a variety of historical texts
and organizations. In one comment on another link, the Jew Watch writer
says s/he is from the former USSR. My impression is that this site is
posted and maintained by an individual, not an organization.

Although there are several links to Jewish online groups, interestingly
there are no links to the various Jewish genealogy groups.
