I am posting on behalf of a friend who is not a subscriber to the list.

He is researching Bronislaw Josephwicz. He was born in Poland, 2 October
1914, and died in England 2 October 1997. His father was Wicenty
Josefowicz, who died before 1957 probably in Poland.

Bronislaw, it is believed, came to the UK sometime after WWII, after
spending part of the war as a prisoner of war in the Soviet Union.

He needs to identify a locality, or localities, where this
surname might be common. None of the family ever came to the U.S., but he
searched the Social Security Death Index, just to get variations of the
name. These are the variations found:

Josefovic, Josefovicz, Josefovitz, Josefowicz, Josefovitch, and Josephowitz

Any suggestions? He did try searching some of the Polish search indexes,
but the surname does not seem to be a common one.

Basically, he would like a locality so he can start searching records, or
find someone who can search them for him.
