Maria,

I was in the same position about a year ago. I started with naturalization
records. Call the Pennsylvania State Archives (I have no idea where they are,
or their number, but you can probably find it by calling information or looking
on the internet). Ask them to research their naturalization records to see if
there is a copy of your ancestor's in there. On some naturalization papers, the
last forgein city that the person lived in is listed, along with their birthday,
the ship which they arrived in the US on, and the date it landed.

Once I had this information for my relatives, I found the city on a Hungarian
map, and looked in the LDS library to see if they had any church record filmed
for that town. In my case, the church records were filmed. I ordered them from
my local LDS library. When they got in, I searched for the birthdate (listed on
the naturalization paper) and found a record of my ggrandfather's birth, along
with his parents names, and his sponsors. This was a little difficult, since
the records, are in hungarian script, and I don't know a word of hungarian. I
had a hungarian-english dictionary which identified the columns in the church
record as "name" or "parents" or "Christening".

With a little more searching in the same church records, I found the marriage
record for my gggrandparents, their ages at the time, their parents names, etc.
That is where I stopped, because the script on the particular film was so hard
to read. Someday, I will try again.

Hello All!

Would like to know how does one start a search in Hungary? Have tried
online searches with no results as of yet. Would like to try to locate my
grandmother's family. When she left Hungary and where from. According to
a Pennsylvania census records she was naturalized 1907 or 1909 ,hard to
read.

Where would be the best place to start? Any help will be greatly
appreciated.
