I have just recieved two 2 hour video tapes taken in Visk.
The first all i]in Hungarian was shot in 1992
The second was shot in 1993 and is in English.

One interesting item in the tapes is the Reformed (Calvinist) Church
in Visk was the largest in former Hungary. Its services
which have resumed in 1990 for the first time in 40 years
have in attendence 1000 to 1500 folks attending.
Taking into account the town is 8000 people.
The church is still the original fortified (walled) building
built in 1200. This wall was used in defending Hungary againt
the Tartars.

All services are still in Hungarian even though Visk is now
Vyshkovo in the Ukraine.

All the street signs are still in Hungarian as well as Ukranian.
The majority of the population still speak Hungarian.

Most of the homes have electricity but the restrooms are outside.

There is no food or goods in the stores there.
When goods arrive at the stores they are gone by that evening.
Very rarely is there any meat. Everyone is on their own for meat.
They rely on their own animals.

Everyone is paid in Coupons no hard cash or currency.

This is amazing when the Hungarian border is just 30 miles away.
And the Romanian border is 3 miles away.
