Subject: [HWE] HEMSTEEK, Dutch? German? merchant in Lisbon ca 1711-1713

Found a reference to "C. HEMSTEEK merchant in Lisbon" (presumably
Portugal) ca 1711-1713. The reference was written in English by a
French Huguenot who had lived in Amsterdam but most likely was living
in London at this time.

The name HEMSTEEK seems Dutch to me but I haven't found any similar
names yet. Anyone have any thoughts on variations in either Dutch or
German? It's possible this merchant was from Hamburg.

Thanks,
Marcia
