Not everyone in the LDS Church is involved with family history. Sad but true.

Not everyone is interested in family history -- it makes no difference whether they are LDS or not. When the genealogy bug bites, it is easier to become involved in family history.

My husband's family has a long heritage in the Church but because of deaths and other family tragedies he didn't really know much about his family. In the past 6 years, we have probably doubled the amount of genealogy our family knows about his side of the family. It has been exciting for both of us to learn about these ancestors as we document their lives.

While the HWE list may not be the best place to discuss religious doctrine as regards family history, let me say the LDS Church has based their teachings on scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments.

I believe my own Walloon and Huguenot ancestors wanted to worship according to the dictates of their own faith. Staying in France was not usually possible. Thus many families fled to other nations where protestants were more accepted. I want to honor these courageous men and women by acknowledging that all people have the privilege of worshiping as they want. It is part of the golden rule, I think.

For Giselle Embry -- I am very sorry that the Embry contacts did not respond to your request to share information. Perhaps the family doesn't know how to make the connection with your information. Perhaps they are embarrassed to admit that they didn't know their own heritage. We do not always know what is happening in another family's life -- perhaps it was simply the timing of the correspondence. Whatever the reason, I am sorry for the poor impression you received.

There are no current general authorities with the last name of Embry listed in the 2007 Church Almanac. I did know a mission president named Embry who served here in Michigan but he is no longer here. I could ask one of my friends how to contact him if you would like. She has remained in touch with the family.

Please email me privately if you want me to try.

I have made inquires about my shared name EMBRY with several EMBRY who are
in the hierarchy of the LDS. I sent them my family tree (as I know it) and
much of my research. When I asked for information in return they first
evaded my questions and then would not even respond to my questions as to
why they will not respond.
