Dear Judy, Tony and other listers,
Hopefully, Judy, someone out there can answer your queries!
I was looking at some of the Leiden Walloon Index films the other day and
found them a fascinating if tantalising resource. Not only were they copies
of membership admittances such as the one Judy mentions, but they also
contain copies of BM entries, ranging from 1500 to 1828. They would appear
to have been compiled from church registers from all over the Netherlands
and Germany. As well as the church record entries, they include references
to refugee French officers who received pensions from the estates general in
1686, most of whom later joined the Williamite Huguenot regiments.
Judy, can you explain your reference to < another film with the original
page with names >?
As well as the main Leiden Walloon index (199 films), there are separate
Leiden made indexes of the French registers of La Rochelle (1602-1685)(3
films) and Montauban (1647-1682)(6 films). There is also a smaller general
index known as the collection Mirandolle,(21 films), which includes parts of
France, Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany. The original indexes are at the
Bibliotheque Wallone in Leiden in Holland.
The entire Montauban indexes are available for viewing at the London LDS
History Centre. I have also placed there a small number (5 out of 199) of
the main index films.
Regards,
John V.

Hello
Where do I look for more information about a person in the Leiden Index?
MY RESEARCH PROBLEM:
I am trying to find a link between my GABRIEL COSAND with a son DANIEL
COSAND who appears in North Carolina in 1718 when he buys land, and a DANIEL
COSANDIER who appears in the Leiden Index in 1697 with this info:
"Admin a la Ste Cene de Noel comme membre de l'Eglise Wallonne de Bois le
Duc, Dec. 1697
Daniel Cosandier, de Neufchatel
sans attestation
Archives de l'Eglise Wallonne de Bois le Duc
Registre des membres I No. 1881"
I ordered film of the Leiden Index from LDS to get a photocopy of the index,
and another film with the original page with names. Is there more? If so,
what?
Is there an immigration/passport list for this date?
Are there church records for the people in the Leiden Index? Is the name of
his church "Eglise Wallonne de Bois le Duc?" If "Bois le Duc" =
"Hertogenbosch" I think LDS has these records and I will order them. Is
there an index somewhere? Is there an archive in Netherlands that has them?
Thanks for any advice.
