Dear Carol, This sounds interesting. I have had a quick look at the road
atlas and I cannot find a Sutton-in-the Forest anywhere. However by the
merest chance it brought to my mind I house I visited a year or to ago near
Penrith in Cumbria.. What do you think? I hope you (or someone else reading
this) can sort me out. Best wishes Lesley Pinchbeck .

I wrote a query to a Yorkshire website asking for any information on the
French and Dutch emigrants who were 'invited' to settle in the deforested
Forest of Galtres about 1637, just before the King was in York in 1641. A
very nice woman replied and said that there is a Sutton in the Forest as
well as a Stamford something I don't have my British Road maps here nor do
I have her email. I'm going to
look in York and see if I can find anything. I'll post it if it looks
important.
