Apparently the Huguenots had the secret recipe for making felt and would not
give it up for years and years - I know it involving a lot of heavy pressing
of the beaver pelt or whatever they use instead. I have a book on it
somewhere around here but can't lay my hands on it at present. I think there
were many Huguenots that went to England and continued the trade - all kinds
of hats were made out of felt and still are, like our famous cowboy hats -
the dress-up variety.
