I have a similar situation with the EMBRY name which is said
http://jeantosti.com/noms to be from the Aude and Hérault; (southern area of
France). However the town of EMBRY is in the far northern Pas de Calais.
The town was established at least as far back as the 800's, but almost all
the Embry people actually do show up in Aude and Hérault as far back as the
1200's and that is where they are at present.
Perhaps one of the many wars or plagues caused whole families to migrate?

The information about possible Catalan origins is very interesting. Still
south. A lot of them must have migrated in to the south of France.
The site will also be good for checking out my other Huguenot names.
Thanks again.
