Subject: Assistance with "Jr." abbreviation
Date: Fri, 21 Oct 2005 01:06:36 EDT
Hello,
I am attempting to translate (or at least get a good understanding of) the
articles of marriage of one of my ggfather's (Isaac LESPINE) and his first wife,
Elizabet PLUMAIL. They were written in 1675 in Orange and I'm having some
difficulty with the old French, but am prepared to persevere. It's a 6 page
document, so I expect I might get it done in time for Christmas! In the
meantime, I wondered if someone could please explain something that is puzzling me.
The document refers to Isaac as "Jr. Izaac LESPINE" and to his parents as
"Jr. Pierre LESPINE" and Elizabet VITOU. I thought that 'Jr' referred to
'Junior', but feel that I may be incorrect because the son's name (Isaac) is
different from the father's (Pierre). Isaac's father-in-law is referred to as "Se.
Estienne PLUMAIL" What does the "Se." denote - Senior?
Can anyone help me puzzle through my father/son Jr. puzzle please? I would
be grateful for any assistance.
Thank you.
Regards,
Jan Zwarick
