Hi Marc, Thanks for the reply. I thought I was doing very well to have
narrowed it down to Picardie ;o).
The period I am looking for, if she married in 1700 in Canterbury, would be
about the 1680's +/- 5 years. I can't find anything that resembles "Du
Menille en Picardie" or any of it's variants. My husband and I have tried
saying it in French with an English accent and in English with a French
accent, but we haven't got anywhere - we just end up talking rubbish to each
other.
The man she married was Jean TABOURDEUX, who with the JEGU family, all came
from Plessis Mornay, which I have found here

Ho Hum (as Peter would say :o) - back to the drawing board.

Looking at contemporary maps can help... Try
http://www.viamichelin.com/viamichelin/gbr/dyn/controller/mapHomePage
When/if you know about other place names in your ancestry, you can start to
pinpoint possible locations, and then go to older maps, which tend
overwhelmingly (when they're interesting) to be small-scale --
sub-provincial.
Rare map dealers will often give you medium resolution JPGs of the maps they
are selling, and some of us (me included) have private collections, so if
you can be more specific about the area (something more finely-grained than
Picardy) and the time period, we can probably dig something up for you.
