Hi Peter
St Botolph Without Aldgate may have once been a Catholic Church but Henry
VIII put paid to that.
It was never a Huguenot church. It is a parish which borders Spitalfields
so, like St Dunstan's in the East, it picked up a lot of Huguenot/Huguenot
descended BMDs without being French/Huguenot per se.
It's still a consecrated Anglican church which is used, in part as an
ecumenical link to the Jewish community which, though greatly diminished in
East London now, followed the Huguenots in populating that part of East
London - which is where my education comes in.
Blooms Salt Beef bar of blessed memory was just a few hundred meters away.
And it's very close to the scene of one of the recent London bombings on the
Underground.
Regards
Tony Fuller
