I have followed my relatives back to Jan (Jean) Monfoort and Jacqueline
Moreau who were originally from Valenciennes (France or Belgium at the time,
I believe). I've been told they were Walloons who moved to Amsterdam. In
1624 they, along with their son Pierre (Peter), and others sailed on the
Eendracht to the New Netherlands. The Monfoort's returned to Amsterdam
between 1630 and 1636. In 1636 son Peter married Sara DePlanck in the
Walloon church in Amsterdam and they returned to New Netherlands in 1639.
Does anyone know how I might find out if there are any Monfoort's still in
Amsterdam who might be related? Are the Walloon churches still in existence
and having services? I heard the people were assimilated into the Dutch
life, so probably speak Dutch today. If anyone has any info on this family
(or if you are related to them) I'd like to hear from you. I am learning
more about the Walloons by all the discussions on this sight. About a year
ago I had never even heard of a Walloon. I am also related to Andre
Lamoureux who is a Huguenot.
