Dear Hanne Thorup

In answer to you question about the fichier wallonne, I will quote to you
the letter I received from the librarian at Leiden University. I hope this
explains what I meant.

"The Dutch Walloon churches have built up a card index with personal names,
called the 'fichier wallon' containing short biographical data of the
members of the church in Holland. Although the original index is preserved
in our Library, consultation is only possible from a microfiche copy
deposited at the Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie at The Hague. The
loose-leaf character of the original (small paper slips) prohibits its
frequent use."

When I went to the Bibliotheque Walloon in Leiden there were filing drawers
with a card index in them referring to manuscripts in the storeroom. I was
allowed to consult these so I assume that they are not the "fichier wallon"
but are references in addition to the "fichier wallon".

I am very much a novice at this and I only spent one day in Leiden so I am
not an authority. One thing I do know - one can spend a lot of time
searching without finding.
