Hi Barbara

Following on from Jan's lead, as follows, from the 1593 return of Aliens for the Metropolis (Hug Soc Publication, p.166:

DE LAUNE, GIDEON, and Judith, his English wife, 2 (sic) Frenchman, born in Nimes in Languedoc in France, apothecary, no children, one stranger apprentice (rest of information bound into spine); no stranger maid servant; dwelt in England 18 years; denizen; of the French Church; keeps two English apprentices and one maid; sets no English person to work.

1635 Return of Aliens in the Metropolis p.269):

DELAWME (Delaune) Gedeon, apothecary, in England 6 years (60 years entered but struck through), French, 4 servants, In Blackfriars
Note: we know that he was already living in the 'great house' of Blackfriars in 1585 (Poynter p 8) which gives credence to the entry '60 years' even though struck through.

Hope this helps

Regards

Tony Fuller
