Subject: [HWE] CD 'Strangers, Foreigners & Aliens'
Date: Sat, 26 Jul 2003 07:35:36 EDT
For Tony and everyone else who is interested, the only email address I have
for Mike Gallafent is the one that appears on the front of the CD. It's
.
The first CD I received from Mike included two sets of data:
List of Strangers in London 1567/8
Lists of Foreign Protestants and Aliens in England 1618-1688
The following was written on the back cover:
"This data disk holds two sets of data that relate to those of foreign birth
who sought to settle in England and particularly London in the 16th & 17th
centuries. The information was transcribed from original manuscripts and
published in London in the 19th century.
The data is stored as two collectins of digital images which are all in the
Acrobat (pdf) format. The earlier collection of 1567 has been extracted, as a
series of cuttings, from articles written by the Rev. A.W. Cornelius Hallen
and published in the 'The Genealogical Magazine' Vol. I, 1897/8 amd Vp;/ II,
1898/9. There is no index to this collection.
The second set is devoted to the lists of Foreign Protestants and Aliens that
was edited by Wm. Durrant Cooper and published by the Camden Society, London
in 1862. This collection is indexed.
There is no license agreement; the information is out of copyright, in the
public domain and data may be extracted and copied from this disk without let or
hindrance.
Mike Gallafent October 2001
"
Last year Mike provided me with an upgrade. The upgrade includes data that
is all indexed. The upgraded CD has a copyright on the front of the disk:
Mike Gallafent Copyright January 2002.
I hope that this helps all who are interested.

Jan Zwarick
