Subject: [HWE] Political and Non Political Huguenot

Well listers, once again I have been caught up in this
fascinating story of things 'Huguenot'. (One day I will
get back to my section of our family research.)

But for now !

While meandering my way through the files that compose
the Internet, I came across yet another story of
anothers' family.

Much has been said here, and in other forums,
concerning who were these Huguenot people.

In a story by Marion Clark, I found the following
snippet which had the old mind wondering again.

"It is important to hold the distinction between those
Huguenots who were peace loving and non political, and
those Huguenots who used the cause to establish a
political and military base." Source:- Marion Clark -
Australia http://www.witness.com.au

The idea of 'non political' and 'political' Huguenot
folk had not really been a major moment in my thought
processes, but now I am thinking.

One would imagine that most who fled France, or even
those who remained, were of the 'non political'
enthusiasts and so little has ever been recorded of
their life at home or in other lands.

I also imagine that that is why many of us have found
little record of our ancestors. They were just folks
who went about life but were Huguenot in their faith.

And so if that was the case for your ancestors, then
alas little is ever going to be discovered. Perhaps by
reading the stories of other more notable Huguenots we
can put together a sort of story that suits our own
family and that is all that we can do and so move on to
other sections of the genealogy research.

But!

If one has even just one Huguenot ancestor who was a
'political' or even ' military' Huguenot, then there
surely will be records. Military records of either side.

Mind you, genealogy in France is not something that is
as well researched or documented as it is in many other
countries. Particularly those who served in the
military. If your ancestor happened to be an 'officer'
or of minor nobility then you have a chance. Not a good
one but just maybe somewhere there are records.

I should seek the answer to a question rather than
'waffle'.

Who were the 'political' activists for the Huguenot
cause in England ?

Ditto for above but exchange the country to France ?

This could produce an interesting list of names ? And
by doing so perhaps it will provide more information to
some ?

Yes, some of us are a little fortunate in having some
ancestors that were recorded. Many were not and so even
for those of us with a head start, the research can be
long and at times mind numbing. And that is why I ask
these question. Sometimes someone will make a small
mention in a post that means little to most but to them
it solves mysteries.

I wonder who was 'non political' and who was
'political' among our subscribers ancestors ?

Kind Regards,
Peter Leroy
