Subject: [HWE] New to the list. Looking for Delaune Huguenots
Date: Sun, 18 May 2003 19:10:08 -0500

Hello,
I'm new to the list and find it very interesting. I'm looking for ANY information on the Delaune (De Laune) family in the 1500/1600s who were originally in France and fled to England and then to Ireland. I'm told this was because of their Huguenot beliefs. Thomas Delany/Dulany was my immigrant but his father was supposedly Gideon Delaune. I'm assuming that Thomas changed his name to be Irish sounding as there are many Delanys in Ireland. He is commonly known to be from Laois (Queens) county, Ireland but at least one person has him from Kilkenny county. I'm hoping to prove this connection but there is also a possibility that he was one of the ancient septs descendants. I'm trying to prove the right connection one way or another.

I'm finding this list fascinating for all kinds of Huguenot information whether my connection can be documented or not.

Any "site" suggestions would be appreciated. I cannot find anything on the Irish site. I have found the surname Delaune on one list for the Huguenot Society founded in Portarlington, Ireland but that's all that was on the list. No other information about this member or family was posted.

I hope this message goes through. I have posted a couple of messages before and they were returned but I think I tried to post to the "D" list rather than the "L".
