That idea is called in France gallicanism (from latin galllicanus, gaulois)
meaning Paris has at least input on Rome or is more important than Rome in
French catholicism ,(for ex. Paris vetoes or accepts the names of french
bishops) .The other side is called ultramontanism (from ultra mont over the
mountains, the Alps between France and Rome), that stipulates that Rome is
always the prime decider in french catholic matters . Luc
