Are the Anglicans called "protestants"?
My understanding (and I may stand corrected) is that the Anglican Church
does not use the term "Protestant" in describing its beliefs. That term is
used to describe many other non-Catholic groups/ sects/organizations - e.g.
Lutherans (of course), Presbyterians, the United Church of Canada (of which
I'm a member), etc. Of course, this may be the situation in Canada but not
in other countries.
Peter makes a good point re: the time line for the beginning of the
Anglican Church and the Lutheran, etc. (i.e., protestant) Church.
This is an interesting "side line" to the general discussion of Huguenots.
Just my $.02 worth.
BTW, when I was in France some years ago I visited a church (in ruins) which
had a small sign nailed above the door, stating that this building had been
a place of worship of the "cult" of Protestantism. It was a surprise to
learn that in France my religious beliefs were considered a "cult".
Cheers!
