Date: Wed, 7 May 2003 18:23:35 EDT
Hi Everyone
In my Tree, I have a James Anker of Ramsey, marrying Susanna Bevil of
Whittlesey. They married by license in Stanground, Hunts, in 1708/9.
Susanna was baptised in Whittlesey in Feb 1689/90, dau of Frances.
There were 2 other BEVIL daughters of Frances/is, Alice and Annice, baptised
in 1688 and 1692.
While looking through the fiche of the Whittlesey PR, i found the marriage of
William Harrison and Joyce Bevill in 1710.
I didnt find a baptism for Joyce and i went as far back as 1669. (the next
bap before that listed in the index was 1642).
If anyone know if Joyce and Susanna BEVIL are connected, please let me know.
the BEVIL name was in Whittlesey when the PRs started in about 1600, but it
disappeared after the 1720s.
I know that Harrison is a variant of the Walloon or Huguenot name Hairsign,
and i have quite a lot of evidence to suggest that Anker is a variant of
Hancar, also a Walloon name.
Does anyone know the origins of BEVIL ?, is it also a Walloon name ?
If any of the above fits into your Tree and you would like more info,
particularly on Anker, or the Bevil I have noted from the Whittlesey PR,
please let me know
Bye for now
