Hello Lawrence
Nice to hear from you. The first real wave of Huguenots to England ( and
therefore Ireland also) started in 1567. That is when a Church was
established at Southampton for them. Most did not stay in Southampton but
you can see who arrived there if they died, married or had children
baptised there. It also lists where they came from in France or the Channel
Islands. I suspect my Huguenot Clement ancestor is a Jan from
Erquinhem-sur-Lis in Flanders who married at Southampton Walloon Church in
1572. A John Clement is found in Cork, Ireland in 1643 Depositions who
could be him or more likely one of his sons.
This Southampton church register is on a Hug. Society fiche, and LDS film.
You can also consult a Surname Index to all the Hug. Society films which is
on fiche in NZ but I dont think it is on LDS film. Depending on where you
live, you should ask for advice on where to access that. I think the Index
would be the best place for you to start.
