Hi,
Does anyone have any information on the family "BIGOT"of Spital Square,
Spitalfields.
I am interested in the family of Jacques GODIN who it seems married Marie
Magdelain BIGOT inn 1727 in the Artillery Church. Jacque and Marie named
their son Giles GODIN - after his maternal Grandfather, Giles BIGOT. Later
the son of said Giles GODIN and Elizabeth OGIER his wife (married in about
1758)had a son named James GODIN presumably for his paternal Grandfather.
This last James changed his name by deed pole in 1780 to become James BIGOT
!! this in accordance with the will of Peter BIGOT, who was perhaps or
perhaps not his Uncle ???
The GODIN and BIGOT familiues lived in close proximity to each other in
Spital Square.
Jacques GODIN and his son Giles were both something to do with "la
Providence", = Directors I think. Jacques had some silk cloth woven for him
to a design by Maria GARTHWAITE which I think is now hanging in one of the
museums in London. ( I should really look this up and not try to quote it
all from memory....)
Thanks for any help anyone can offer..
Chris
