In reply to Richard, who wrote: " I an trying to obtain further details
about Charitee FOREE,

> Cork in the early 1800s", here are some ideas or avenues for further
research:

Grace Lawless Lee's "The Hug. Settlements in Ireland",(1936) ( reprinted
Clearfield, IUSA, 1999) in her chapter on Portarlington writes on page 147
that Jean FAURE ( with acute accent over the e) was an officer on pension
in Portarlington. Lee says Fauré was pensioned in 1692 and died in 1718
( two years after being witness to the will of Bermon Villeneuve, a Dublin
merchant. The will is available which is rare for Irish wills.)

In Alicia St Leger's "Silver, Sails and Silk, Hugs in Cork 1685-1850, ( pub.
1991 by Cork Civic Trust) there is no Foree or Feuré but there is a FERRAY
mentioned in the Appendix on pages 52-53 headed "Some Huguenot Names
associated with Cork". Starting on page 17 in a chapter headed Hug.
Craftsmen there is a lot of information about goldsmiths, silversmiths and
jewellers in Cork before the 19th century when the industry went into
decline due to competition from imported items. It names some people but
does not claim to name all. Some of the information was obtained by Alicia
from Cork Archives Institute and Cork City, County and University College
Libraries, which may be fruitful places to make enquiries.

Finding parish register information for Cork City if you are not in Ireland
is a nightmare because there is hardly anything of it on Mormon film and no
Heritage or Genealogical Centre which covers it yet, although work is
supposed to be proceeding on one. I haven't yet figured out how to access
from New Zealand any baptismal information about my Cork City Huguenot
Clements family who were there in a Census of 1659. I'll let you know when
I find a way or perhaps Richard could let me know if he finds out sooner!
The registers of the Huguenot churches in Cork seem to have been lost (
which is rare for Huguenot registers). The only information I have managed
to get so far is from Cork Marriage Indexes and Will Indexes on Mormon
films. This means you can find out when people married and when they died
approximately sometimes but not when they were born or who their parents
were!

Good luck!

Barbara Holt in New Zealand.
