There is a least one mention that NEWHOOK is a Huguenot name. The family
migrated from Wessex in England to Newfoundland, Australia and other places.
This is a very well-studied name and so far nothing has been found--to my
knowledge, at least. The name probably had a number of spellings, some more
Dutch. The name NEWHOOK or NEWHOOKE has been traced back to the 1500's in
Dorset and Wiltshire.
