Good idea, Andrea - - - -
My particular connection to the Huguenot list is 9G-Gf Andris Souplis,
reported as having been born c1634 in Abbeville, Picardie. (also reportedly
from Alsace, but "we" feel that's unfounded at best.) My search initially
began with #7G-gf William Lascum (nationality unknown,. reportedly "French",
arrival date in Colonies also unknown), married to Christian Yocum in
Philadelphia in 1735. Lascum/Lascomb was my mother's maiden name.
Now, Yocums (Jochimsson of New Sweden 1640's) are very well documented, and
in pursuing them I find that Christian was the daughter of Charles Yocum and
Ann Souplis. Much has been published about Ann's parents, and a great deal
of it wrong ------- her mother was purportedly Gertrude Stressinger of
Germany, but no foundation for this has been found, altho' almost all of the
publications do say that Andris Souplis was a Huguenot, of noble birth, a
military officer, etc. It appears that his wife and the mother of his
children was Anneke ____________. From Holland?
All of the activities of the ancestors after arrival in the New World, are
fairly well documented. However, acquiring documentation for Andris is
difficult. If, in fact, we have accurately identified his
birthplace/parents/time then we are back to c1533 - - - - but as all of you
know, without documentation it's all just speculation.
And so it goes. I'm happy to be associated with you wonderful, intelligent
and informative "genies". You are a great bunch !!!!!
