Hu Guys

Some days ago Peter L (who else) wondered out loud why young men wandered off to be theologians or
lawyers.

Easy answer really, if you went to uni in those days, apart from being a Doctor, there was very
little else to study. Whilst you could become an alchemist, mathematician, economist or similar,
those guys - like Leonardo Da Vinci - were outside the academic mainstream, most academics being
theologians or doctors with a bent for science rather than being mainstream theologians. I know
that there were chairs in mathematics, geometry and the like around Europe but most of the academic
stuff was based on religion. Even the great oxymoron (go look it up) Logic, which was part of
Natural Philosophy, was based on religion - logic and religion!!!!
