Most of my family are from Saint Malo. Rennes,
Avranches (Normandie) however there were family in
Bourges from the 1100's to around the 1700's. We had a
few nifty titles way back when. And yes, our family
were (and still are actually) in Law and Finance.

There of course was the Grandpa who met this girlie in
Wiltshire (he was trying out the Huguenot style at the
time (his Da Giles had moved out fo France earlier due
some difference of opinion with the local parish and
his cousins over in Bourges).

Anyway, one thing led to another and while sitting
around the bbq one night she says her Dad is coming
over. He had not met her parents. Her Mum was nice,
Esther, with a name poor old Grnadpa apparently
couldn't say (Neuf-Salisburg Bouer) And then Grandma
Ann's father comes up. Hi my names is Bill but you call
me Guillaume.

That was the start of a long grudge match between them.
Grandpa spoke with the French accent and told Bill that
he knew he understood French 'cause Bill's family came
from Rohan.

But the story goes that Grandpa Jean and his father
in-law just never did get on and so when Jean decided
it might be safe to head back to France with his wife
and kids, his father in-law objected "big time".

Jean told his father in-law to stick his money and
titles and left anyway.

Mind you we were also into highway robbery, a little
gun running, 15 went to the guillotine, 5 legion
d'honeur and some good old fashioned gold miners. oh
and some family who wandered over to grow some grapes
for wine purposes. Then there were the religious
folks.. a few who got into the Huguenot life, Roman
Catholic and Judaism.

As I keep saying, a mixed bag is my family.

Thank you Luc very much for the source for the
L'Hopital genealogy. Now to find it

Regards,
Peter Leroy
