Hi list
I really can't believe this! After all these persecutions, pains,
dragonnades, fear of death and more they bore so patiently ...?
Huguenots might have had this (Catholicism) easier if they'd been willing to
convert already in France, voluntarily. But French Reformed Protestants
never used to convert to Catholicism at all, and so they tried to make it to
foreign countries, even if the French crown would punish them by death or
the galleys for only trying to leave France!
Or do you mean something else by "blending into Roman Catholic culture",
Cliff?
Questions re: Canadian Huguenots to the list 'cause I don't know very much
about this topic:
How many Huguenots (ca.) made it to French Canada (or other French overseas
territories? Were they sure enough there, without any further persecutions
by authorities and administrations? Does anybody out there have a short
overlook or can provide some links of this subject? Thanks in advance!
Greetings, and have a fine week!
Juergen
