I am a new lister. My g-grandmother was Jane LAINE, born 1840 in
Cookstown, County Tyrone, Ireland to James LAIN, yarn bundler and
linen dresser. Jane married my g-grandfather Robert STRONG in a
Methodist chapel in Belfast.

Family tradition tell that there is French in our family origins,
which by a process of exclusions points to the LAINEs.

In our family bible there is a cross stitch bookmark which says:

"Trust in the Lord * Jane Laine * ( heart symbol) A.I. * souvenior*"

The above evidence: Calvinistic protestant, family tradition of a
French origin and use of French in the book mark lead me to ask these
questions:

(1) Is LAINE a French protestant name? It is very unusual in Ireland.

(2) Is "souvenior" an archaic French word... some obscure imperative
or subjunctive mood... remember me or would that I be remembered? Or
on the other hand is it the flexible spelling typical of those times
in Ireland?

(3) Were there many Huguenots in County Tyrone... perhaps a yarn
bundler and linen dresser was associated with Huguenot artisans?
