Wonderful to see the list so lively these days! It seems many of us have
awakened from our slumbers of earlier in the month. Thank you to all who
have been posting to the list.

That said -- and not wanting in any way to stifle exchanges between
subscribers -- I hope I will be forgiven for taking on my role of list
concierge for a moment and mentioning the following, pertaining to
our list guidelines.

** If you are sending a personal thank you to another subscriber -- which
has no genealogical content -- please send it to that person privately, not
via the list (guideline # 7).

** When replying to a previous post, it is unnecessary to quote that entire
previous post in your reply. Instead, <snip> (delete) most of it except for
a relevent small portion of a sentence or two (guideline # 5). Or
paraphrase it briefly in your own words.

** When replying to a previous post, check to see if the subject line is
still relevent to the topic being discussed. If it isn't, change it
(guidelines # 4 & 5). If you want to, you can refer to the previous subject
line in brackets in your new subject line, eg. XXX subject (was YYY
subject).

All of our list guidelines (and the reason for each of them) can be found
on the HWE website at: http://www.island.net/~andreav/hweguide.htm.
The overall goal of the guidelines is to have the list running as smoothly
and as helpfully as possible.

I would very much appreciate everyone's help and cooperation with
this, while at the same time, I encourage everyone to carry on
"conversations" with others *on the list* whenever possible (rather than
privately, off-list).
But, if you disagree with any of the guidelines -- be that mildly or
vehemently -- please let me know but *off list* please (ie. to my personal
e-mail address). I am always willing to hear differing points of view and I
may change/modify a guideline if enough subscribers' have a strong and
reasonable case for changing it. Andrea (as list concerge)
