Hello HWE List. I'm a first timer to this List and I'm attempting to confirm Family Folklore that TILBE or TILBÉ or TILBEÉ is Huguenot. I have traced the family back to the early 1600s in England, most prominently near Canterbury, Kent. Some of the old Family documents in England used the spelling of Tilbé as did the Family Bible of my fourth and third Grand Grandfathers. I have photos of those entries but this does not prove them to be Huguenots just of French Origin.
One fellow researcher, not directly related, informed me that he thought that two brothers came to the Canterbury, Kent area in the early 1600s but I have not proof of that. Has any one else researched or found this name in the Huguenot files. I unfortunately do not read French well enough to decipher the out Church records in Canterbury or London, relating to the Huguenots or Walloons.
I would appreciate any help you can offer.
Cheers Jim Tilbe
