Dale,
You asked about ships' lists. Have you looked at Filby? Filby
indexed ships' lists coming to the US and Canada area. His volumes are
to be found in state genealogy or other genealogy libraries. My state
library has the 1981 edition. It is two volumes, the size of very large
dictionaries. Then there is another volume put out each year, about the
size of an encyclopedia. You need to look up every spelling variation of
your names that you can think of. Plan to spend at least a few
afternoons at it. You will feel like your arms have had a good
weight-lifting work-out. I tremendously admire Filby's work.
