Listers --

Hopefully, someone out there will find some useful information in the
following baptisms. These were extracted from the records of the Malthouse
Chapel of Canterbury, Kent, ENG and there are many different surnames
mentioned. These records are available on LDS film # 1482451, which is a
copy of original, contemporary records, handwritten and in French.
Those of you who have been here for a while will recall that this Chapel
has come up before on the list (those previous posts can be found in the
list archives. For keywords, type in both Malt-house and Malthouse because I
think both spellings have been used).
The Chapel was established after a disagreement that some members had
with the Walloon Church in Canterbury. As a result, they broke away to form
their own congregation. The chapel records date only between 1711 and 1745
and include mostly baptisms, only one marriage and no death/burials. The
minister up until c1715 was Jean CHERPENTIER and after that, until 1745, it
was Pierre LE SEUER.

Please note that, in this post, I include *all* baptisms from this
record between 1711-1724, with the remainder up to 1745 to follow at a later
date. The only ones I have *not* included are some previous ones I extracted
for the surname TEVELEIN (with other names mentioned, some of them the same
as the ones below). This was posted to the list on 3 Oct 2000 and is
available in the list archives. (TEVELIN is also mentioned a couple of times
below.)
Note that these baptisms *are not* exactly as they appear in the actual
records -- I have extracted pertinent info such as dates, names, places,
relationships and then translated it into English. The original records are
in French and therefore are phrased a bit differently. So, if you find
something here which is relevent to you, please consult the original record
to verify and also to get the "full flavour" of those records. Also note
that *none* of this info would be on the IGI because these records have not
been published by the Huguenot Soc. of London.

Abbreviations used below are: Min.=Ministre=minister,
P.=parrain(s)=godfather(s), M.=marraine(s)=godmother(s), bapt=baptised.

1718 -- Louis, son of Monsieur Louis DE LESTANG, Esq. & Madame Madelaine
Susanne DE LESTANG, born 24 Jne, bapt 24 Aug. The parents as well as the
godparents signed their names to this entry -- ie. Monsieur Jean Jaques
SALIHAC, Monsieur Jean TEISSIER, Madame Susanne DE LESTANG "pour Madame
Hanriette DE LESTANG a Canterbury" -- which was not the case with other
baptism entries.
1719 -- Anne, dau of Jean & Anne BLANCHAR, born 26 Mar, bapt 5 Apr. P:
Nicolas GEULE. M: Bonne GEULE, "femme DE LA FERIERE" & Catherine BLANCHARD,

FEBURE, born 29 Jne, bapt 9 Jly. P: Jaques SEGUIN & Jaques MARQUILLER. M:
Marie TEVELIN.
1724 -- Pierre, son of Jaques & Marie SEGUIN, born "le 24 1724" (?which
possibly means 24 March?), bapt "le 10 d'Avril suivant". P: Jaques SEGUIN,
Pierre MARTIN. M: Margareth SEGUIN.
1724 -- Abraham, son of Jean BLANCHAR, born 18 Sept. No bapt date, no
mother's name. P: Jean LENAR & Michel MOISSON. M: Marie L'AMER.

Note that some of the above surnames have appeared in previous posts
about records in various Canterbury parishes but not necessarily as they are
spelled here. For example, TIBEAUX may have been spelled TIBO, TOURTEAU as
TORTO, LOTTE as LOTT (may be the the same as LOSTE?) and AUBRY as OBRI. Did
we also have someone recently who posted re: surname LE LEU?

I hope anyone finding material which is relevent to their own research
will post to the list to share this information. Andrea
