Subject: [HWE] Threaded Archives: yet another update

Listers -- Here follows another update on the threaded archives which is
still malfunctioning. For the past couple of days, it has not been
accessible at all -- "temporarily unavailable" the message says. Before
that, it was still obvious that things were not right. For example, this
month was listed as having 61 messages as of 10 June but there were actually
only 30 messages in there, dating up to 5 June.
I have received the following statements from RootsWeb about this
situation --
"There are a number of issues there and not are all resolved. In fact
archiver has a number of limitations that we are working on.....they will be
worked on and the integrity of the archives will be achieved at some stage."
Hmmmmm, "at some stage", eh??......By the way, ours is not the only list
affected. For example, the Huguenot-L list has far fewer than their usual
number of postings listed for April, May and June. I am assuming that this
is also the case for the threaded archives of other lists.
In the meantime, as I have mentioned before, the threaded archives --
when it's "available" again, which is hopefully soon -- can be used fully up
until March. Otherwise, use the Keyword search archives at :
http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl
This whole thing is really unfortunate because, in my opinion, the
threaded archives gives you the true "flavour" of a list by allowing you to
browse through all the subject lines of messages posted. Sometimes you find
things that are unexpected. On the other hand, the Keyword archives only
shows you certain selected messages, based on keywords you have chosen. But,
we'll just have to make do til everything is fixed "at some stage". Andrea
