I wonder if MORITZ would be considered a Huguenot surname. My paternal
grandmother was born a MORITZ and was 1st generation American. Her family
immigrated from Prussia, spoke German and considered themselves to be
Prussian Germans ...her grandfather had been baptized as a Mennonite 5 years
after coming to America in 1875 (arrived NYC). He joined a Mennonite
Brethren church that had been comprised of Mennonites and Reformed Lutherans
in the part of Russia that had been colonized by Germans (in this case,
German Mennonites....many of whom had earlier roots in Flanders....i.e.
THIESSEN) .
When I did cursory searches on the surname MORITZ about a year ago, I kept
getting feedback that MORITZ was a Swiss surname.

Rev Zwingli was of the Reformed faith like the French Reformed (Huguenots)
and the Dutch Reformed and Scotch Presbyterians. The Mennonite faith is

like the Baptists and also le
A friend of ours from our Presbyterian church was born in the Netherlands
but
his last name is duBlois - he told me his ancestors were French Huguenots.
Many Huguenots also fled to Germany were they were given sanctuary, e.g.,
where I studied chemistry at the Univ. of Erlangen (near Nürnberg in
Bavaria)
lots of the names of the people had French sounding name; and at the Univ.
is a Huguenotenbrunnen (Huguenot Fountain).
