Hello Luc
The earliest reference I have is of a Rawlyn DORY applying for
deinization in July 1544. as he was 65 at the time he would have been
born about 1479 at some place outside the English mainland; which could
mean he was from a Huguenot family.
I know this is all very tenuous but any link is better than none I
suppose.
The spelling of the name varies tremendously and there are at least 25
variants if which I know. However, apart from some isolated differences,
the spelling settled down to DOREY in the late 19th century.
I am most grateful for your contact and thank you for any help you may
give me.
Michael.
