I have some pieces to a puzzle that I am just
trying to put together now. What better place
to start than with the help of this list?
My earliest known ancestor is Thomas GOHEEN born
1753 Bensalem, Bucks Co., Penn. who married
Rebecca CLARK. Thomas was a United Empire
Loyalist and settled in Canada.
I have located a marriage certificate of Thomas
GOHEEN marrying Bridgett JOHNSON in 1732
Bucks Co., Penn. There is a good possibility
that Thomas & Bridgett are parents or
grandparents to the above but I haven't found
anything yet to confirm this.
Due to verbal family history, another researcher
looked to France to find the Goheen origins
and at the Walloon Library Leiden, found:
Married in Leiden, November 20, 1601,
Thomas GOHEN originally of Boulogne,
France and Anne de ROY, originally of
Tournai, Belgium.
Other spellings of Goheen as given
by the Huguenot Society of London,
England:
-it is believed that GOHIN is the original
spelling in France.
-In 1582, Leonard GOINGE was a servant to
James Lyst, a gold smith in London.
-In 1646, Jennie GOINE was Godmother
to Elizabeth La Lis d/o Gille La Lis
at the Huguenot Church of Threadneedle Str.
-1681, Jacques GOWAIN, made his
"Temoinage" to the Huguenot Church.
It isn't much but perhaps someone will
recognize a name or have a suggestion
as to how I can obtain more pieces to
this puzzle.
Thanks
Linda Prince Smith
