According to the recent Church News, "Relief supplies from the Church
was already on route to India before a magnitude 7.9 earthquake
devastated the country's western Gujarat state Jan 26." More than
600,000 pounds of food, blankets and other supplies plus $65,000 was
sent to assist in relief efforts. Over 12,000 have been counted dead,
but some estimate the death toll could rise to as many as 100,000
because of the dense population. This follows 85,000 pounds of relief
items sent to El Salvador after the Jan 13 earthquake.
