Lynda,
I forgot to add this one. It is my neighbor's ancestor. If you want
more details, I will ask for them. I don't even know the name, but love
the story.

The family was crossing the plains. The mother was pregnant and became
very sick. They were at a fort and she went into a comma. The whole
company waited for some time, but there was no improvement. She seemed
to be on the verge of death. Finally, the captain said that they could
wait no longer. The family had the choice of going on with the company
or waiting until her death and then going alone. The father decided
he'd better go with the group. He dug a grave, hired someone in the
fort to watch after her and then bury her.
Soon after the company left the baby was born. It was alive (not
expected). And the mother soon recovered. (Must have been toxemia or
such.) She improved rapidly. She looked out her window one day and
asked whose grave that was...
Anyway, she was soon better and another group came along so she
joined them and traveled to the valley. The first group encountered
some problems and the second group went by a slightly different path.
The result was that the young mother and babe reached the valley before
the rest of the family. She was there to greet their arrival! And she
probably had a few things to say to them!
Lucy
