I am descended from James Sansome Bowers and Maria Lay that were in the very
first handcart trip, Edmund Ellsworth Co. Roster 1st Co. They left Iowa on 9
June 1856 and James died 12 days later. Maria made the trip the rest of the way
with about six kids the youngest being six according to the list. The names of
the children are: (youngest) Shadrach, Isaiah, Jacob, Isaac, Abraham, Hezekiah,
Sarah(twins), Joseph, Isabelle & Job Lay. I found the handcart info from the
info I have gotten from this wonderful list. Maria died 8 Nov 1889 in Nephi,
Juab County, Utah. Anyone related to these people? It would be fun to meet
