Dear Jackie:
Hi! Long time since I've seen you on the internet. I was hoping to get
some information from you on your Nell side of the family to add to the
information I sent to you on a disk. I don't know for sure if you even got
the information because I never herd back from you. I would appreciate
knowing about your end of the Nell family. Please respond and let me know
if you received my disk and if you were able to access the information on
it.
Now in regards to the Nokes family. I have some information, but I think I
have even more with a little bit of digging into all of my genealogy,
Clara Rozilla Nokes joined the church and was baptized on 17 Aug. 1876. She
had two brothers join Joseph on 2 Apr. 1877 and William 6 Jan. 1903. Their
parents work was done after their death: I'm assuming by the children.
Rufus James Nokes familys
work that's been done so far was after their deaths and Harriet Lewis
families work that's been done has also been after their deaths..
I have information on these families back into the mid 1700's, but I would
like to have more if any one out there has more to offer. I go back to John
Nokes, born abt. 1752 and his wife Clement and 9 children. I also have David
Lewis, born about 1778 and his wife Clarisa, but only 1 child David born 23
Jan. 1801-2. the David born in 1778, his fathers name is John but that is as
far back as I can get.
If anyone has more, I would appreciate hearing from you as well.
Thanks
Sharleen Nell Tomlin

Subject:[HANDCART-L] Mormon Settlements(?)
I always knew that my gggmother was Mormon--but I had heard that she and
one brother converted and had to leave home because her parents were
anti-Mormon. But, as I look at the places they were located--I am
beginning to think maybe the whole family were Mormon. Does anyone know
how I would go about finding this out??
The family was:
Rufus James NOKES b 1827 in NY
Harriet Maria LEWIS NOKES b. 1826 in NY
Charles NOKES
Joseph NOKES
Clara NOKES NELL
William NOKES
Charles Mormon NOKES
John Wesley NOKES
My ggggfather was born in NY--1827. Married in NY--1842 Children began
being born in McHenry IL (first 4) then Palmyra IA (next 2). Then two of
children went to Utah. But the last son and father went to Cottage Grove
Oregon.
Weren't NY, IL, and Palmyra early Mormon settlement areas? Was Cottage
Grove Oregon also a Mormon destination in 18--?
Wish I knew more Church history---can someone out there fill me in?
Thanks
