I was wondering about the saints that did not travel in the handcart
companies, but came after them. I know from my Utah history that the
transcontinental railroad was completed May 15, 1869 at the north end of
the Great Salt Lake. What about the time period between 1860 (last
handcart companies) and 1869? What was the travel mode?
Once my ancestors arrived in "Zion" they were sent down to the Dixie
area. St. George, New Harmony, Pine Valley, etc. Is there any record
that shows why they were sent there and by whom?
Are there any e-mail discussion groups about the Dixie area?
Researching SCHMUTZ from Switzerland who emigrated to Dixie area.
Thanks, Dave Schmutz
