FWD to the doubting toms about the ancestry of Joseph Smith's 5th Great grandfather
This was sent to me by one of my cousins
This will dispell all information regarding the Ecceles connection to the Colby ancestry
Anthony was just a poor stif that came to America looking for religious freedom and a better life.
Ron---The info about Anthony Colby's background can be found in a book
called--
Fifty Great Migration Colonists To New England & Their Origins, by John
Brooks
Threlfall, published in Madison, Wisconsin in 1990. Mr. Brooks is
greatly respected in the world of genealogical research, and personally
researched much of the book. He of course, didn't duplicate the work
that has stood the test of time, but quite rightly tested
some of the time-worn ideas of earlier researchers. He traveled to
England to do his work
and was very thorough in checking church records of baptisms, burials,
and marriages.
The chapter on Anthony Colby also contains a photo of his house in
Amesbury, Essex,
Massachusetts from the outside (it still exists!), and shows an interior
view of the huge fireplace area. There is a list of his children, who
they married, birth and death dates, etc. The inventory of his
possessions, after his death, also contains a list of creditors, and
debtors, many of whom are also ancestors or relatives of mine. All in
all, a GREAT book!
Last, but not least, is a facsimile of his signature. He also refers to
earlier works by Weis, called the Colby Family; Old Families of
Salisbury & Amesbury, by Hoyt; Essex County Probates; Suffolk County
deed 11:176; Savage's Genealogical Dictionary, page 423;
Quarterly Court Files; Pope; The American Genealogist 51:65-71
Every day is a good day.
It's just some are better than others.
