Victoria,
I also debated whether to respond to your obvious bias concerning the Mormons.
Although this list is for "research purposes", you seem to have decided this is the
place to air your anger and disappointment at what your family decided of their own
free will to do in joining the "Mormons". I myself am not of the Mormon religion but
my father's father and mother's side were. Two of my great grandparents died at
Winter Quarters, their son was able to go on to Utah.
Wasn't the idea to be able to worship the faith of their own choice the reason why
the first settlers came to America? It was their CHOICE to come to this country
just as it was the CHOICE of the Mormons to find their own place to be able to
worship as they wanted.
I think you really need to seek some counseling because your anger, embarrass-
ment and shame of your background is getting in the way of any research you may
be able to accomplish. I think Karen is right, you need to read the other side of the
story, otherwise I don't see you accomplishing any worthwhile research at this
stage of the game. Deal with your prejudices elsewhere, they don't belong on a
research list where people want to do Genealogy, not have to defend their dead
ancestors!!
