I am interested in TN history and genealogy also.
Teresa Elliott <> wrote:Thanks Kathi. I have several pension files on my mom's family, but this was
the first time I had seen the index. You are right, they are very rich
in information and I can't wait to get a copy of this man's since he and his
wife were granted a pension, and of the three of us researching his line, we
didn't know about this wife. Sounds like I better get this one on order.

a soldier applied for a pension based on wounds or illness suffered
while in the service. To receive a pension, the soldier must have
suffered "a permanent physical disability not due to vicious habits".
One of the soldier's whose pension file I sent for made his claim for a
pension based on "frozen ears" from sentry duty. And he was successful!
If the pension has an application number but no certificate number, that
means that a pension was applied for but was rejected. These pension
application files are especially rich because many times a pension was
applied for a number of times and each time contributes to the info in
the file.
