Hi everyone,

This message sent to the list was a good excuse for me to
write a little reminder (and hopefully helpful tip!) for
all subscribers.

Rootsweb mailing lists are self-serve. You must sub and
unsub yourself, also you must change your own email address
or delivery mode (digest vs list mode)

If you change emails, you must subscribe using your new
email address. You can't use your OLD address and tell the
list robot to subscribe your NEW - that doesn't work. The
robot 'reads' your sending email address and tries to
subscribe that address.

So what you should do is UNsubscribe from your old address
before it is no longer valid, then subscribe when your new
email is up and working.

Rootsweb mailing lists are automatic, meaning a list robot
does the subbing (subscribing) and unsubbing
(unsubscribing). The list robot only understands certain
commands, and only responds to one email address for
commands

The only way to unsubscribe, subscribe, or change your
email address is to use the correct address AND
to use the correct commands in your request.

Every subscriber receives a Welcome message when they
subscribe. In it are instructions on how to UNsubscribe
and lots of other good tips. Please READ and SAVE it.
You'll be glad you did!

Posting a SUBSCRIBE or UNSUBSCRIBE request to the list
address doesn't work. It only
goes out to the list for all subscribers to read.

You must use or
(depending how your list
mail comes in to you) to unsub.

You must use one word only in the body of your message

unsubscribe

You must not put anything in the subject header

You must turn off siglines in your email message.

For more instructions, read your Welcome message. If you
have lost it, start at
http://olivetreegenealogy.com/lists/maillists.shtml

Scroll down to the list you want and click on the link.
You will be able to sub, unsub, read the archives or browse
the archives from that page.
