Clara,
Tell us where the census was taken and what year.
Also, do you have a scan of it so subscribers could look at
it? Because if it were W.I., that might mean West Indies.
Also, here's a little GenTip for everyone -- be sure to
change the subject line of any emails you send to lists. A
subject of "Need help with census meanings" or "Meaning of
W.S. in census location?" will get more subscribers
reading the message than "GenTips Digest" :-)
It's hard for subscribers on Digest because sometimes we
hit SEND before looking at the subject line, which defaults
to the Digest name and number! I've done it too, and it is
SO frustrating to not be able to call that message back to
change the subject.
