There are lots of ALWAYS free databases at Ancestry. No charge card needed.
The Ancestry World Tree is one of those.

Here is a list of always free databases:
http://searchforancestors.com/ancestryfreebies.html

Ancestry does offer a free trial for two weeks to their paid databases, and
for that you are asked for a credit card. It is all spelled out when you
sign up for the free trial.

From Ancestry's website: Free Trial OFFER DETAILS: You will NOT be charged
during your free trial. If you are 100% satisfied during your trial, do
nothing - your subscription will automatically continue. Your card will be
charged automatically one (1) day following the initial 14 days of your
subscription. "

The always free databases do not require a free trial or credit card to
view. If you want to view the paid databases for free, you can get the free
trial (for which you will be asked for a credit card), and then follow their
instructions to cancel before your trial is up. I have done the free trial
myself, canceled within the 14 days, and was not billed. I put a post-it
note on my computer screen so that I didn't forget to cancel in time.
